Authentic Voices Africa Recognized Among Uganda’s Top Emerging Artists

In May 2025, Authentic Voices Africa (AVA) received a major recognition from the European Union in Uganda under the Yo Voice Be Hard program. The collective was named by Derek Debru, founder of the Nyege Nyege Festival, as one of the top emerging artist collectives shaping the future of Ugandan music over the next five years.

AVA earned this distinction for their groundbreaking fusion of traditional tribal sounds with electronic music, a style that preserves cultural authenticity while pushing Uganda’s music scene into new global frontiers.

As part of the program, AVA artists took part in six intensive masterclass workshops, gaining new insights and skills to expand their craft. Their performances further cemented their rising influence: first during World Music Day celebrations, and later as one of the headline acts at the Nyege Nyege August parties—a stage that showcased their unique sound to both local and international audiences.

This recognition marks another milestone in AVA’s journey, affirming their role as cultural innovators and positioning them for even greater international acclaim.

YO VOICE BE HEARD | NYEGE NYEGE PARTY

30.8.2025

On 30th August at The Wild ones Nyege Nyege Party organized by Nyege Nyege, Authentic Voices Africa performed its 2nd OKUZA  (translated word of "Gathering" in the Lugbara language) in collaboration with Declared Sounds which was a storytelling journey and experience through sound, movements and ancient storytelling.

We curated the set to question the concept of ancestry, origin and destination of the human race while embracing the unifying factor of the drums to gather people regardless of ethnicity and nature. As we further this research, last event was an affirmation of the continuous lovely reception we continue to receive from each audience we meet during our performances.
